Tomato and Cornbread Panzanella – $5.25
First on our list is the tomato and cornbread panzanella. A mix of extremely fresh ingredients make up this wonderful salad. The cornbread perfectly balances the dressing and the tomatoes. We enjoyed this more than expected! The fresh cheese really makes this dish great – it smashes over everything and was a lovely creamy addition with the strong vinaigrette pairing.
BBQ Grilled Pork Tenderloin – $6.50
Then we tried the BBQ pan fried pork tenderloin. The meat was very tender and easy to carve.
It’s nicely spiced, but not too fragrant, which is good because the barbecue sauce is very potent. The sauce tasted like a basic barbecue sauce, but with a little added vinegar. The vegetables add a nice texture and lightness to the dish, which was fresh and well cooked.
Whole melon lotta – $4.50
Feta cheesecake with watermelon curd, marinated watermelon rind, watermelon caramel and compressed watermelon
It was a very unusual dessert. The bottom tastes exactly like cheesecake, the pink dollops are compressed watermelon, there are two marinated crusts and a faux chocolate swirl crust on top. In terms of texture, it acts like a normal cheesecake, although it resembles feta.
You get the cheese taste quickly which was weird but not bad. We find the sweetness of cheesecake then the slightly salty feta. The caramel is very subtle with a soft kick on the tail end. The marinated crust is good on its own, but adds a sour ply to the dessert when you eat it in one bite.
The squeezed dollop of watermelon on top has the consistency of thick, watery yogurt. It’s bittersweet, almost like they’re mixing cream cheese and watermelon juice and hoping for the best.
You definitely get watermelon and feta in this dessert and it’s a really unique version, but we’d just prefer plain cheesecake. It’s really not bad, and someone brave and willing to try new things would like that.
The honey cheesecake at Honey Bee-stro might be more to your liking for something along the same lines without being too adventurous.
