Shangri-La Toronto offers a summer afternoon tea menu with a French twist

Tea on a summer day never seemed so refreshing. Shangri-La Toronto has a new afternoon tea experience called “The Orchard” and it’s like a trip to Paris with every sip and every bite.

According to the Shangri-La, the new menu lets you “explore a taste of summer, inspired by Ontario’s bounty of seasonal fruit, with a twist of French pastry,” featuring seasonal ingredients from local suppliers.

It was developed by classically French-trained pastry chef Calvin Watt, who is best known for his Parisian experience serving Pierre Gagnaire, who was voted the best pastry chef in the world.

Highlights of the menu include a selection of hand-carved trompe l’oeil chocolate fruit and you can choose three out of five as part of your afternoon tea experience.

The menu wouldn’t be complete without a few tasty bites and there’s plenty to try on “The Orchard” menu, including a callop chouwich, tomato croissant sandwich, duck foie gras mandarin, brandy, madeira and tangerine jelly and delicious tea scones.

When it comes to tea, you can choose from a collection of renowned premium teas and start things off with a glass of refreshing Chandon sparkling wine.

The afternoon tea menu is served in the sumptuous Shangri-La Lobby Lounge, described as “an urban lounge”, which offers live music daily from 2pm until late.

“The Orchard” is available until August 28, which means you don’t have very long to try it out. It’s the ultimate way to treat yourself and a friend or loved one on a summer outing on the town.
