The Cycle for Life Beccles charity run is about to return

This is one of the best-known local charity rides that sees avid cyclists saddle up to raise money for good causes.

And more participants are wanted as runners make a welcome return to the popular Beccles Cycle for Life charity race in May.

The Sunday 15 May event will mark the 20th Beccles Cycle for Life charity ride organized by the Rotary Club of Beccles and to coincide with this milestone it returns to its usual base at Sir John Leman Secondary School.

The ride will raise funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Rotary Club Charitable Trust in equal parts.

The Rotary Club trust supports both local charitable causes and international charitable needs, including a recent donation of £590 to Shelterbox (disaster relief survival supplies) and another donation of £590 to the Ukrainian humanitarian appeal from DEC.

The ride is suitable for all ages and abilities, attracting families and regular cyclists alike as participants navigate five possible distances of eight, 16, 25, 41 and 50 miles on country roads.

Family and team registrations are at a special rate and runners of all categories can register directly online via the event website while it will also be possible to register at the school on same day.

Organizer Paul Randle, who is also the Rotary club president, said, “We look forward to as many early registrations as possible this year.

“It makes the day much easier for everyone and a less expensive way to participate in our enjoyable event.”

It’s also easy to create a JustGiving page via a link on the website or use referral forms if you prefer.

A spokesperson for the event added: “The success of the event is aided by the many runners who are willing to secure personal sponsorship from friends and family rather than simply paying the entry fee.”

Prizes are available to be won by runners who lift sponsorship, with Certified Financial Planners in Norfolk and Suffolk donating five prizes for sponsored runners to win, including four for children, to be drawn at the hospital party of Beccles in June.

Lord Somerleyton is also offering the price of a day entry voucher to Somerleyton Gardens for a family of up to four, with tea and cake included.
