Urban Tea House, Naremburn @ Not Quite Nigella

Urban Teahouse, Naremburn

Each time sammy and I’m taking the boys to a play date, it’s on the North Shore because she doesn’t drive so I leave it to her to find places. She came across The Urban Teahouse on her travels and I was hooked on the idea of afternoon tea. Sammie was able to book one of two outside tables so we could make sure we had somewhere to sit outside with the dogs. The Urban Teahouse is located on Willoughby Road, just off the highway.

Although there were salads, sandwiches and coffee dishes available (and a whole separate vegan/vegetarian menu), once I had afternoon tea in my mind, nothing stuck with me. ‘has stopped. The High Tea Grazing Board for two is reasonably priced at $40 plus the teas you love, which are only $5 each. You can also choose the cakes you want from their display and you have the choice between a filled ciabatta or a cheese toast.

Sparkling iced tea and iced milk tea $5 each

Sammie and I are both trying one of their new teas, Berry Bomb from Rabbit Hole Teas. She gets the fizzy iced version and I get the iced milk tea version because I like milk tea and it’s rare to get milky berry tea as they usually curdle with the addition of milk. The fizzy iced is refreshing, but I love my berry milk iced tea because it has strawberry shake vibes although much less rich and sweet.

High Tea Grazing Platter for 2 $40

We start with the ciabatta stuffed with salami, tomato and mayonnaise which is grilled and cut in half. It’s simple but delicious and I take small bites as the sandwiches are my favorite part of afternoon tea. I think if I had to tip it would be to order an extra sandwich as I really wanted more.

We move on to the scones. These are not served hot although I’m sure they would if you asked as they are really friendly. There’s a choice of a fruit or plain scone, so we go with one of each and split it. And they give us separate jars of berry jam and whipped cream. The scones are good although at this stage I’m more interested in trying their homemade cakes.

We picked two of their most popular cakes: there’s a chocolate cheesecake with a baked cheesecake base and an unbaked layer of frosting on top and it’s nice and quite rich. My favorite cake though is the lemon cake which tastes nutty with a thin layer of frosting on top. It is beautifully moist and lemony. And there are even blueberries on the tray for the two dogs!

So tell me dear reader, would you choose a regular lunch or an afternoon tea? And would you choose a fruit or a plain scone?

This meal was paid for independently.
