Ynyshir restaurant menu, prices and how to book
Welsh restaurant Ynyshir has been named Best in the UK at the prestigious The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards 2022, becoming the first to be crowned winner in this category outside of England for the first time in 16 years.
The epic victory for Ynyshir, which is located near Machynlleth in Powys, adds another gong to the venue’s two Michelin stars, five AA rosettes and the highest ranking in Wales in Harden’s Guide.

Judges described Restaurant of the Year as “combining a punchy soundtrack with a succession of tiny plates of hard-hitting, fire-cooked Japanese-influenced cuisine” and praised the restaurant, run and owned by Gareth Ward, who was born in County Durham, to provide “a dining experience like no other”.
Its website warns people, “The theater of cooking takes center stage. Expect fire, intense flavors of the world, and the best meat and fish from around the world.”
And as it’s dubbed “undoubtedly one of the most unique and exciting places to eat in the UK right now, perhaps in the world”, you might be wondering what’s there. so special in this food?
Here we take a look at what’s in the sample menu and how much a lunch or dinner here will cost you.
What’s on offer?
The incredible restaurant is set in the most stunning setting and offers an impressive 30-course tasting menu.
Although these plates are bite-sized, the depth of flavor is astronomical and is a true definition of expression: small but mighty.
If you want to take a trip to this “destination restaurant”, you should know that due to the unique dining experience on offer, they unfortunately do not cater to any dietary requirements or offer substitutions for any of the dishes, according to their site. Internet.
Be sure to set aside time for your lunch or dinner, as the tasting menu will take around five hours to enjoy – but enjoy. According to their website, if you are coming for lunch, you should arrive at 12:30. For dinner, it is 5:15 p.m.
The ‘immersive dining experience’ includes 30 dishes which are detailed in their sample menu (below) which has been split into a series of fish, shellfish, duck, chicken, pork and lamb dishes Welsh before arriving at Ynyshir’s famous wagyu beef and a selection of sweet plates.

While the menu itself leaves a lot to the imagination – the descriptions of the dishes are just a few words hinting at the flavors involved – it gives visitors an exciting glimpse of what to expect. But what they box expect is a celebration of the chef’s philosophy: “Ingredient Focused, High in Fat, Obsessed with Protein”.

If you’re looking for something a little lighter, guests can reserve a table in their outdoor bar and casual dining area — though this isn’t part of the main restaurant and doesn’t offer the tasting menu.
From their reservation page, this option, called the Legless Fach reservation, offers: “Natural wine, beer and small plates served under our expandable tent. Weather permitting! Menu changes weekly.” –
Each reservation in this section is for one and a half hours. To secure your table, Ynyshir asks for a deposit of £10 per person, which will be deducted from your bill. For more information, see here or visit their Instagam.
Where is he?
The award-winning restaurant and hotel is located on the Dyfi Estuary in a house that was once Queen Victoria’s hidden retreat. It dates from the 1750s and was led by Neighborhood Gareth and his partner Amelia Eiríksson since 2013. Expect the rolling hills of Snowdonia as a backdrop and stunning green gardens surrounding the country house.
Inside the four walls of the building, in addition to full flavors delivered by the chef, the restaurant features a live DJ to amp up the unique atmosphere.

How much does it cost?
With 30 courses of luxury ingredients, cooked to award-winning standards – and served in the most breathtaking setting – it’s understandable that a meal in Ynyshir doesn’t come cheap.
Lunch or dinner costs £350 per person. If you dine with a room at home, the price is £495 per person.
