Z&Y Restaurant Launches Exclusive Wine Pairing Menu in Collaboration with 3 Badge Beverage Corporation


Chinatown’s favorite Szechuan foodie destination launches “Spicy Flights” menu to warm up San Francisco summer and support CAL FIRE Benevolent Foundation

SAN FRANCISCO (August 8, 2022) – Z&Y Restaurant, Sichuan’s premier dining destination located in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown, is pleased to announce a new wine pairing menu in collaboration with Sonoma-based wine and spirits marketer, 3 Badge Beverage Corporation. The “Spicy Flights” menu will only be available for a limited time, with a portion of proceeds going to the CAL FIRE Benevolent Foundation, an organization providing funds to California firefighters and their families.

“We are so close to many prestigious wine regions that it seemed only natural to pair our authentic dishes with local wines to enhance the dining experience,” said Executive Chef Lijun Han. “I want to educate people about Sichuan cuisine and its bold flavors, especially the spiciness and spiciness, due to the use of Sichuan garlic, chili peppers and pepper, which go surprisingly well with many different wines and we are delighted to share this with our guests with this special menu.

The “Spicy Flights” pairing menu features several deliciously authentic Sichuan dishes, prepared by Chef Han, paired with various wines from the 3 Badge Enology portfolio, including select bottles from: Guinigi, Tree Fort, Gehricke, and Cedar & Salmon . All wines will be available for purchase by the glass or bottle. Selected menu pairings include: Crispy Garlic Shrimp or Sliced ​​Pork with Spicy Garlic Sauce paired with Gehricke Pinot Noir, Gehricke Los Carneros Sonoma Rosé, Tree Fort Chardonnay or Gehricke Chardonnay; Explosive chilli chicken paired with Gehricke Pinot Noir, Gehricke Los Carneros Sonoma Rosé or Cedar & Salmon Pinot Gris; and tea-smoked duck paired with one of the Pinot Noir or Cedar and Salmon Cabernet Sauvignon.

A fourth-generation member of one of California’s oldest wine families, August Sebastiani is president of 3 Badge Beverage Corporation, a wine and spirits trading company based in Sonoma, California. After growing up in Sonoma, August earned a degree in political science from Santa Clara University. Shortly after, he returned to his hometown to join his father and brother at Don Sebastiani & Sons, where in 2005 he founded a division that would become 3 Badge Beverage Corporation comprising a portfolio of oenology, mixology and zymology.

Professionally trained, Han is an award-winning chef with decades of experience in authentic Sichuan cuisine. He attended a top culinary school in Beijing where he majored in Sichuan cuisine and culture, before emigrating to the United States in 2000 to serve as Executive Chef at the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco. At Z&Y Restaurant, Chef Han strives to offer authentic dishes with fresh and healthy ingredients, using Sichuan cooking styles from Chongqing and Chengdu. The Chongqing style is the well-known bold flavors with generous use of chilies and oil. The Chengdu style has a more subtle taste with less chili peppers. Both styles are featured on the Spicy Flights menu to accommodate customers who enjoy spice-centric cuisine as well as customers who prefer mild flavors but want to experience Sichuan cuisine.

Z&Y Restaurant is an award-winning dining destination, first receiving the coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand ranking in 2012 and maintaining that status every year since.
