Snoopy’s Japanese-style teahouse opens new location, brings bonus Snoopy Chocolate
Enjoy classic Snoopy cuteness with some Japanese traditional tastes and trinkets.
There is one place every diehard Snoopy fanatic must visit on a trip to Japan, and that is Snoopy Chaya (tea house) Yufuin in Oita Prefecture. A gorgeous and stylish space with a menu inspired by Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts crew, the tearoom stays ahead of other pop-up themed cafes with its carefully curated menu and locally sourced ingredients. The tearoom recently changed location, but good news! He is ready to reopen the December 10, with a plethora of trays filled with peanuts to buy.
Of course, moving to another location is a great excuse to liven up the menu and product offerings. Snoopy Chaya Yufuin offers a range of mouthwatering treats for incoming customers, starting with the Snoopy Bungo Chicken Tempura plate. Tender and succulent chicken is fried in a crispy tempura batter and presented with two hearty chicken-cooked rice balls and a matching salad. Snoopy and Woodstock silhouettes adorn the plate, and they’re edible too! It costs 1,078 yen (US $ 9.56).
▼ Bungo chickens are sourced locally from the interior of Oita Prefecture, so this chicken didn’t travel far to get to the table!
Three types of Snoopy’s “raw” Dorayaki, the traditional sweet crêperie popular with young and old alike. Choose between sweet pancakes stuffed with brown sugar warabimochi (350 yen), red bean paste and butter (350 yen), or strawberries (420 yen).
The merchandise also has new goodies in store. Two series of models will be available, the first being the Steamy Onsen Series. This gorgeous citrus-hued series pays homage to Yufuin’s reputation as a spa town by showing Snoopy and the gang frolicking on the onsen.
▼ Tote bags (1,650 yen) and Japanese-style towels (880 yen) are also convenient for a hot spring trip.
The other model is the Wreath Pattern Series, which adorns Snoopy with flower garlands. The bright cosmos flowers look especially fresh and pretty on a blue background.
Clear files, tote bags, badges and more!
Perhaps most exciting is the fact that a Snoopy Chocolate branch will open next to the tea house. The Yufuin branch is the fourth Snoopy Chocolat, and will offer exclusive pistachio chocolates in the image of Snoopy.
A glimpse of Snoopy Chocolat.
Let’s take a look at some of these exclusive Snoopy candies, shall we? The first is the Crunchy chocolate (1,760 yen) which incorporates diced pistachios and a crispy fiantine pancake batter in chocolate. It comes in a stylish little box with an adorable design.
But there are also pistachio rolled chocolate sticks (1,080 yen) or boxes of nuts coated with white chocolate with pistachio (990 yen). Pistachio fans are in luck!
▼ The pretty pale green color is fresh and alluring.
▼ The Rolled Chocolate Case uses classic Peanuts panels!
On opening day, anyone spending 3,000 yen or more in the Snoopy Chocolat store will receive a clear and free file, while stocks last. While themed cafes and even peanut-themed snacks aren’t new to Japan, it’s rare for a classic American character like Snoopy to be treated with this level of detail and high quality, let alone the food itself looks irresistibly tasty even without Snoopy’s mark of approval.
